Complete Olin College Parking Regulations

Note: These regulations may change after an appropriate review of the registered vehicles at the beginning of each academic semester (September/January). Appropriate notice will be made to the Olin community.

Special Parking Regulations for Academic Year

  • Parking Lot B, off of East Drive, will be student and employee parking. Section B-1 is for employee parking only (24/7). Students should only park in section B-2.
  • Lot A tiers 4, 5, and 6 are for student parking.
  • Lot A tiers 1, 2, and 3 are for properly registered Faculty, Staff, and Guest Vehicles. For information on how to register a guest vehicle, please email Campus Services.
  • Parking Lots C and D will be available for Olin community members and their guests utilizing the athletic fields.

Who needs to register a vehicle?

Any student, faculty member, or staff member who operates or parks a motor vehicle or motorcycle on the property of Olin College must obtain a permanent parking permit within 24 hours of bringing the vehicle to campus.

Guests must register by calling Campus Services at x2313, emailing Campus Services , or calling Public Safety at 781-239-5555.

Can my request to have a motor vehicle on campus be denied or revoked?

A driver's request to maintain or operate a motor vehicle at Olin College can be denied or revoked at any time. The opportunity to have a motor vehicle on campus is a privilege, not a right provided by the College. If a person is denied the privilege of having a motor vehicle on campus and the vehicle is found being operated or parked on the Olin campus, the vehicle will be towed at the owner's expense.

Disobeying a revocation order may result in disciplinary action.

Where do I register my car?

What if I use two different cars to commute to work?

Faculty and staff may register up to two (2) cars with permanent parking permits. Students are limited to one (1) vehicle, unless approved by Campus Services.

How much does it cost for a permit?

Currently, permits are issued without a fee. However, Olin College will review the costs associated with operating the parking facilities each year and may set specific rates per academic year if needed.

What if I am only visiting the campus for the day?

The College provides limited visitor parking spaces in the Main Parking lot for Admission guests only.

Other guests to campus must obtain temporary parking permits. Permits are available during normal business hours; Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., from Campus Services in the Campus Center, Room 332.

During non-business hours; weekdays 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., weekends, and Holidays, Temporary and Overnight permits are issued by the Public Safety Dispatcher. Further information may be obtained by calling (781) 239-5555.

What if I am staying on campus for an extended period of time?

Any student, faculty, staff, contractor or visitor who brings a motor vehicle to campus must obtain a temporary permit for the length of their visit.

Permits are available during normal business hours; Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Campus Center, Room 332.

During non-business hours; weekdays 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., weekends, and Holidays, Temporary and Overnight permits are issued by the Public Safety Dispatcher. Further information may be obtained by calling (781) 239-5555.

What if I need to leave my car on campus overnight?

Overnight parking is prohibited on the Olin campus, with the exception of designated residence student parking lot(s).

Faculty, staff or guests need to obtain appropriate authorization from Campus Services in order to park overnight on campus. Please e-mail Campus Services for more information.

During non-business hours; weekdays 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., weekends, and Holidays, Temporary and Overnight permits are issued by the Public Safety Dispatcher. Further information may be obtained by calling (781) 239-5555.

Note: During the snow season; November 1, through April 1, all vehicles impeding snow removal may be removed at the owner's expense. See the Snow Removal Parking Policy for specific instructions.

Where can I park if I am picking up or delivering items to my room or office?

At various times, community members may need to park in close proximity to their residence or office to load or unload personal belongings. At such times, the vehicle operator should park so as not to block any building entrances, handicapped access, or fire lanes. The vehicle hazard lights should also be activated. Vehicles parked in excess of 15 minutes are subject to ticketing and towing.

At no time are motor vehicles allowed into the Oval.

Are there any places on the campus I can't drive?

The college has designated the following areas as designated Pedestrian Malls. All but emergency vehicles are banned from these areas.

  1. The Oval pathways connecting Milas Hall, Academic Center and Campus Center.
  2. The walkways in front of the Residence Hall.
  3. The walkway from East Drive at the Campus Center loading dock to Milas Hall lower level entry
  4. All pedestrian pathways throughout the Olin College from Great Plain Avenue to Map Hill Drive bordering Babson College.
  5. All lawns, athletic fields or landscaped areas throughout the campus.

Permission to operate a motor vehicle on the grounds owned, operated or controlled by Olin College is a discretionary privilege of the College. Such privilege may be denied, revoked, suspended or modified by the action of the Trustees or by Officers of the College authorized to take such action.

Where do I park if there is a snow storm?

When the College has closed due to snow or reports of snow emergencies, all motor vehicles must be moved from all Faculty, Staff and student parking areas within one (1) hour of the official closing of school. Members of the community who are leaving a vehicle on campus, must park in the designated Snow Emergency parking area, Lot A-3 (A Lot 3rd row) and Lot A-4 (A Lot 4th row) before they leave campus. Resident Student permits or authorized overnight permits should park their motor vehicles in their appropriate parking area.

When the snow has ceased, it is the responsibility of each person to move their vehicles to a cleared area of Parking Lot A. The Facilities Services group will clear the Designated Snow Emergency Lots within 24 hours after the storm has stopped. Community members can return to their assigned lots once the area has been cleared. All vehicles not moved will be towed at the owner's expense.

When the College is in session and a snow emergency has been declared, all motor vehicles must be moved from all Faculty, Staff and Commuter Student parking areas within one (1) hour of the official closing of school. Members of the community who are leaving a vehicle on campus, must park it in the designated Snow Emergency parking area, Lot A-3 (A Lot 3rd row) and Lot A-4 (A Lot 4th row) before they leave campus. Resident Student permits or authorized overnight permits should park their motor vehicles in their appropriate parking area.

What do I do with my vehicle during semester and vacation breaks?

The parking policy is in effect throughout the entire calendar year and citations are consistently issued in accordance with this policy.

Semester/Vacation Breaks:
During the (December/January) semester break, Thanksgiving break and the Spring break ONLY, students wishing to leave cars on campus must contact Campus Services with their vehicle information. At that time, students will be informed of the designated parking areas for the break period. Students not notifying Public Safety will have their vehicles towed at their expense. Motor vehicles are left at the students' own risk.

Summer Break:
There will be NO STORAGE OF VEHICLES on the Olin College campus during the summer months. All vehicles must be removed from the campus unless the registered owner of the vehicle is residing on campus. A list of local storage parking areas is available from the Campus Services Office in the Campus Center Suite 332.

Abandonment:
Unauthorized vehicles left on campus will be considered abandoned and a violation of Massachusetts General Law Chapter 90, Section 22B.

How do I pay a parking violation?

Parking violation payments are made directly to the Babson Public Safety Parking Clerk located in the Public Safety Building located at Babson College, tel. 781-239-5598.

Traffic violations not paid by the appropriate due date or appealed by the designated appeal date are billed to Olin violators via the appropriate Olin financial services office.

All appeals for violations must be submitted to the Office of Public Safety.

How do I appeal a parking ticket?

Tickets received may be appealed only if the appeal is registered within three (3) weeks of the violation. All appeals must be directed to the Traffic/Parking Clerk on the appropriate form, which is available at the Office of Public Safety or online. The Traffic/Parking Clerk can answer questions regarding the appeals process at 781-239-5598.

Appeals are reviewed and determined by the Traffic/Parking Clerk. Individuals will receive a reply within two weeks of the ticket review date. The Traffic Appeals Board will act as a final appeal for those individuals desiring further action on denied appeals.
