The Department of Public Safety provides law enforcement, security, and emergency services to the Olin and Babson College communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Department of Public Safety consists of 20 sworn police officers and 7 civilian employees. The Department oversees the handling of emergency medical responses, medical escort services, fire safety and detection, crime prevention, safety escorts, and parking enforcement. Officers will investigate all complaints and violations of Massachusetts State law or Olin College policy which may result in the filing of criminal charges through the State Judicial System and/or complaints referred to the Office of Student Life and the Olin College Honor Board. In certain cases, investigations are carried out in conjunction with local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies. The Department provides a wide range of services designed to inform students and employees about ways to increase security on campus: release of a police log to the campus newspaper, bicycle patrol, articles on crime prevention, Campus Watch program, presentations during Orientation, and a safety escort program. Members of the Department of Public Safety check exterior doors on a random basis. Exterior residence hall doors are locked 24 hours a day. Classroom and administrative buildings are secured at the conclusion of normally scheduled business hours. These hours may vary given the events scheduled for each building or campus site. The Crisis Management Committee consists of representatives from all college constituents. Currently, representatives from Academic Services, Campus Services, Communication, Dining Services, Environmental Health & Safety, Facility Services, Information Technology, Public Safety, Purchasing, Student Life and the Olin student body make up the team. The purpose of this committee is to identify, develop and implement emergency response procedures to meet a wide variety of emergencies that could affect the academic mission of Olin College. The work product from this committee will not only include preventative information, but also extensive business recovery plans should an emergency occur at Olin.
